Description:
The cartoon presents Disraeli lying on a kilim and wearing a fez alluding to the alliance he struck with the Ottoman Empire. The deal provided for British military support to the Ottomans in the event of a Russian attack. In return, Britain secured Cyprus as its latest possession. A Cypress tree, standing for Cyprus, grows out of the British crown while a baby sleeping at the tree top symbolizes the Anglo-Turkish convention. Disraeli is singing a lullaby ‘hush a bye baby on the tree top’ with which he is attempting to lull the whole affair
