Description:
Born in Wales, he studied at the Swansea School of Arts and Crafts. In 1930, Glan worked as a political cartoonist in the Daily Express. He also provided cartoons for the Reynolds News, the Spectator, the Evening News and the House Magazine. The What’s On in London noted on his death that his friends will miss ‘his bullient conversation, which reflected his constant enthusiasm for old time socialism, rugby, football and all things Welsh. The cartoon presents Greek Cypriot political leader Makarios playing a reckless game of politics by letting a political settlement slip through the fingers of those involved in the deal. British minister Amery appears to have had the settlement secured before Makarios jeopardized the process by raising new demands. The pun on the word ‘compleat’ is a seeming reference to Makarios’ maximalist strategy during negotiations
