Description:
Ioanna Rheinfelder was born in Bucharest, Romania, but moved to Munich in 1970. She was a graphic designer who did woodblock work and wall painting, as well as musical and theatrical activities. The artist spent some time in Cyprus pre-1974 and was a friend of the Cypriot painter Adamantios Diamantis. She also had an interest in ethnography and, intrigued by the Cypriot culture and life, tried to adapt her work and her titles to reflect this. The print depicts an ancient ship, probably inspired by the launch of the Kyrenia II in 1985, a replica of the ancient Greek vessel sunk just outside the castle of Kyrenia. The motifs framing the ship allude to waves. Dolphins appear in the water, while the red colour maintains the ship as the focal point
