Description:

Caterina Cornaro hands her crown over to the Doge of Venice, Agostino Barbarigo. The scene is divided in two with the exchange taking place in the centre. The Doge dressed in gold and crimson contrasts with Caterina in her simple black garb. Behind the Doge, the left of the scene is dominated by high ranking officials all dressed in red. To the right of the scene behind Caterina Cornaro are Venetian ladies in white gowns adorned with gold and jewels
