Gwendolen Frere was the daughter of Judge Bertle Frere who arrived in 1897 and took up a judicial position in the British administration of Cyprus. She was an amateur artist who executed a series of watercolours of Nicosia and Kyrenia. This one depicts a church with an intricate steeple.
