Ploughing

Creator:

Ioannou, N.

Tarih:

1960

Places:

Cyprus

Description:

The amateur local painter N. Ioannou has portrayed a scene of traditional ploughing, done manually using a team of oxen. A man works in his field dressed with the typical village costume consisting of the black vraka, or baggy trousers, and the short black gilet. The animals are coloured in red and black creating a striking contrast between them, while the soft-hued, multi-coloured mountains are dotted with deep green trees. Despite its naïveté, this work is quite charming
