Description:

Ioanna Rheinfelder was born in Bucharest, Romania, but moved to Munich in 1970. She was a graphic designer who did woodblock work and wall painting, as well as musical and theatrical activities. The artist spent some time in Cyprus pre-1974 and was a friend of the Cypriot painter Adamantios Diamantis. She also had an interest in ethnography and, intrigued by the Cypriot culture and life, tried to adapt her work and her titles to reflect this. The woodprint depicts a female figure of status as attested by the sceptre in her left hand and a scroll in her right. Her long dress is decorated with numerous flowers alluding to Spring. A number of small human figures both at the front and the rear seem to celebrate in her presence and express adoration. Perhaps this is a depiction of a spring festival with a Queen announcing the advent of the season
