Large brass Sherbet Jug (Şerbet Güğümü or Şerbetlik) with shoulder strap, matching cup holder with belt, and a pitcher with handle. Sherbet, from the Arabic word sharba, meaning drink, was made using fruit, flower petals, or other seasonings, with popular flavours being rose, tamarind or pomegranate. Şerbetlik like this one would have been carried on the back of vendors known as serbetci. The long nozel would extend over their shoulder to the front. By leaning forward, it could be poured into glasses kept in the belt, or into the smaller hand-held pitcher. The refreshment would be sold in the streets during hot summer days and was most popular.
