Inscribed on the back: Evangelos Louizos, Marcus's godfather, born at Nicosia. Son of Louis Louizos, the most emenent and eloquent lawyer of Famagusta and one of the most genuine patriots and politicians of Cyprus. His mother Cleo nee Demetriou from Larnaca, the youngest of the 5 daughters of Demetrios Demetriou was one of the most charming, elegant, refined and well educated young ladies of the time. She died 40 days after the birth of her son Evangelos who was then taken by his father to Famagusta. When he grew up and finished the gymnasium he went to the National University of Athens to study law. Then to England to become a barrister. In 1939 the World War broke up and Evangelos a patriot rushed to the mountains of Pindus to fight as an artillery officer against the Italians. When the Germans invaded Greece, Evangelos escaped to Egypt to join the Greek army and render his services as a liaison officer, between the Greek and English army. He was honoured with the golden cross of King George I and with the Medal of Excellent Actions. In 1945 the War was over and Evangelos returned home to Famagusta where he was occupied with different interesting [?] [?] collection of flowers and old mss of great [?] and important old documents. Meanwhile he travelled to France, England, Italy. He used to visit Venice where his research brought to light important documents and for which the Academy of France gave him the title of Knight of the Academy and Letters. In 1974 when Famagusta was invaded by Turks, Evangelos was appointed as educational curator of the Greek Embassy of Nicosia
