Inscribed on the back: Demetrios Demetriou, born Larnaca 1835 during the Turkish occupation. Died, age 50, 1885. With his brother and partner Nicos were then the leading sole importers of merchandise in Cyprus, from whom all the merchants had to get merchandise. Both were renown for their honesty and integrity. Demetrios was irritable but most kind hearted and generous + very intelligent and was for several years municipal counsellor of Larnaca. He travelled a lot in Europe and he was a man of great enterprise. He built factories, erected theatres and was bringing theatrical groups from Greece and Egypt for performances. He very often used to pay himself for a whole performance so that the poor people of Larnaca could attend. He was very tall and handsome with a most charming, imposing, aristocratic personality. He had chosen as a life partner the well known for her spiritual character, the most charming, pious, charitable countenance and of a mild character, Helena Hanna, one of the three daughters of a well known Greek whole merchant well established for several years in Damascus
