This educational journey transports children by train to the period of British rule in Cyprus. Using the Museum’s exhibits and an interactive floor map featuring the railway routes of the island, students embark on a symbolic journey through time, exploring important historical events, personalities and aspects of everyday life during this period.
Through hands-on activities, children discover the operation of the Cyprus Government Railway, explore its contribution to the economic and social development of the island and follow its route through towns and villages across Cyprus. They also become familiar with important moments in modern Cypriot history, including the period of colonial rule and the Cypriot struggle for independence.
Through observation and exploration, children discover the mines and quarries of the island, as well as the products that characterised different regions during the period of British rule. They learn about Cyprus’s ports and understand their important role in the transportation of people and goods, as well as their connection to the eventual closure of the Cyprus Government Railway.
