Saturday at the Museum: The Little Natural Explorer

The educational programme aims to introduce children to the flora and fauna of Cyprus through the works of travellers who visited the island from the 18th to the 20th century. Using paintings from the Costas and Rita Severis Collection, young naturalists discover the natural environment of Cyprus, observe trees, animals and birds depicted in the artworks, and explore the ways in which artists recorded the island’s natural wealth.

Through observation activities, children identify characteristic species of Cypriot flora and fauna, compare the natural environment of different areas and understand the importance of biodiversity for the island. At the same time, the artworks serve as historical sources, revealing aspects of everyday life, human activities and the ways in which the natural environment influenced the development of Cypriot society throughout the centuries.
