Description:
This painting, copied from Giambattista Tiepolo's famous fresco ‘The Meeting of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony’ from the Palazzo Labia in Venice, shows Queen Catarina Cornaro arriving in Cyprus. Her ship, the Bucentaur has just docked in Cyprus and the young Caterina, without a crown, is being helped to land by Venetian attendants but also by Cypriots, represented as Orientals in Oriental costumes. It appears that crowds await to welcome her upon arrival. The picture is full of movement and converses with the viewer. The land of Cyprus appears multicultural including Orientals, Venetians, black servants etc.
