Description:
Ann Villiers was the daughter of Governor Sir William Haynes Smith (1898-1904). She lived in Government House. Most probably, the watercolour depicts the village of Kythrea at the foothills of the Pentadaktylos mountain range, a village graced with much water from its famous spring. Much vegetation owes its presence to the fertile earth but also to the abundance of water. The village had many churches and a mosque, only the latter featuring in the picture.
