The educational programme “The Neighbourhood in Paintings” invites children to explore the neighbourhood of the CVAR Museum through artworks from its collection.
Children identify paintings connected to the surrounding area and key landmarks of Nicosia. Through careful observation, they discover how neighbourhoods and buildings change over time—from the Frankish period and the Venetian era to the Ottoman period and modern times. By comparing figures, architectural elements, and the uses of buildings, children gain an understanding of how history is reflected in art.
The programme is based on observation games and storytelling, strengthening the connection between place, memory, and the museum experience.
During the creative art activity, children use cardboard and ready-made architectural elements such as doors, arches, and windows to construct a neighbourhood on the wall or table, with each building representing a different historical period.
