Children board the Cyprus Train for an imaginative journey.
With the help of a map, they follow the tracks of the Cyprus Government Railway, stopping at towns and villages along the way and discovering how the train connected people, places, and stories.
The railway operated for 46 years and featured a narrow-gauge network with a total length of 122 kilometres. The main line started at the port of Famagusta and ended in Evrychou, with 39 stations and stops serving important areas of the island.
Through role play, exploration, and storytelling, children learn why the train was once so important, as well as why it ceased operation in 1951. Finally, in the art workshop, children design a railway station in a town or village they visited during the programme.
