According to legend, after Aphrodite stepped on the shores of Cyprus, she was led to the north-western part of the island to her baths at the start of the Akamas peninsula. Today, this specific spot, which has a small pond created by a small waterfall and surrounded by rocks under lush vegetation is propagated as the Baths of Aphrodite.
The identification of legends with specific locations on the island should be seen in the light of Cyprus’ tourist policies both before and after independence.
