Sneak Peek: Woman at Market

Scene of a covered municipal vegetable market with an elderly woman with a cane dressed in a black scarf, blouse and black print skirt shopping in the foreground, surrounded by colourful crates of produce on the left and a ristra of garlic on her right. In the background, a vendor with watermelons stands to the left under a blue umbrella while to the right, a vendor stands under a pink umbrella. The bright vibrant tones attest to a summer day.

Ioanna Rheinfelder was born in Bucharest, Romania and moved to Munich in 1970. Rheinfelder was a graphic designer and engaged with woodblock printing, wall painting, musical and theatrical activities. The artist spent some time in Cyprus pre-1974 and was a friend of the Cypriot painter Adamantios Diamantis. She was an ethnographer intrigued by the Cypriot life and culture, and tried to adapt her work and titles to reflect Cyprus.
