Did you know? Hanging egg

In a display cabinet on the second floor of CVAR, you will see a small porcelain “egg” shaped object with an “angel” design on it. These kinds of eggs, often made out of porcelain, wood, clay, or even real ostrich eggs, hung on top of the altar lamps. According to Orthodox priests, these symbolise the earth, the world. In practice, these eggs prevent mice from reaching the oil in the altar lamps. When they try to go through the egg, they slip and fall off.
