A Visitor’s book was always laid out at the entrance of Government House where guests would sign and give their contact information. This was to keep track of who visited and on what occasion. Each Governor had orders to destroy their Visitor’s books after their tenure so that the next Governor would not be influenced by the contacts of his predecessor. The red hard leather cover book dating to 1939-1941 was kept as a souvenir by the then Governor, Sir William Denis Battershill (1896–1959) and later donated by his daughter to CVAR. It contains numerous signatures from local but also foreign guests who visited the Governor during those years.
