To mark International Museum Day 2026, the Centre of Visual Arts and Research is offering the educational programme – ceramic workshop “Points of Connection” free of charge.
The Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR), located near the Green Line, and the collections it houses, essentially reflect the theme of International Museum Day 2026: “Museums Unite a Divided World.”
Children are guided through the museum’s spaces and learn about the island’s people, their everyday stories, and the shared experiences they have had over time. The programme concludes with a creative pottery workshop, where children use clay to build bridges connecting the Venetian walls of Nicosia!
The collections of the Costas & Rita Severis Foundation reveal people who lived in Cyprus, shared experiences, and coexisted over time. Through observing artworks and discussion, children discover stories of coexistence, different cultures, and shared experiences, understanding how art can serve as a bridge for communication and understanding others.

“Museums unite a divided world”
As places of learning, museums contribute to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. In anticipation of International Museum Day 2026, this coming May, we invite you to join us in highlighting the theme “Museums unite a divided world.” This theme will also guide the celebrations for ICOM’s 80th anniversary throughout the year.
Museums are trusted public spaces where people encounter stories, objects, and one another. In times of social fragmentation, polarisation, and unequal access to knowledge and culture, museums help rebuild bonds across generations, communities and borders, promoting dialogue, understanding, inclusion, and peace within and among communities worldwide.
The theme “Museums Unite a Divided World” highlights the potential of museums to serve as bridges that span cultural, social, and geopolitical divides, promoting dialogue, understanding, and peace within and among communities around the world. Museums do not eliminate differences, but they create conditions in which differences can be understood and treated with respect: by protecting cultural heritage and memory, offering learning and reflection, and providing welcoming spaces where diverse voices can be heard. Open and accessible, museums promote diversity and sustainability.
