Visual arts Exhibition: Entre dos mares / My two places

Entre dos mares / My two places

In My Two Places, Asli Bolayir explores her relationship with Nicosia and Barcelona through photography, memory and the sea. Looking at old photographs of Sarayönü in Nicosia and Carrer de l’ Hospital in Barcelona, she reflects on how places change over time, while traces of their past continue to live in names, images and memories. Using these photographs to create postcards, she revisits places that no longer exist as they once were. In another body of work, she turns to the sea, using sunlight, seawater and photosensitive materials to create images through a process that she cannot entirely control. While the old photographs bring her closer to the past, the sea invites her into a process of waiting, openness and discovery. Together, these works reflect two different ways of relating to places, and to the experiences and memories we carry with us.
